Please give us a short summary of your website?
New Aeon Astrology provides Western astrology for the current age. The site contains free information on astrological signs, planets, houses, aspects and more. Paid services include natal charts, synastry ("relationship astrology") and Planetary Profiles.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Our approach to astrology is that of the "New Aeon" -- the Aeon of Horus, the Crowned & Conquering Child of Thelemic and Egyptian mythos. We believe astrology is a tool to help folks learn to overcome or work around their weaknesses, through judicious use of their strengths. Too many astrology sites take a fatalistic, or overly simplistic approach to the chart. We should put the stars to work for us, rather than believing they "run" our lives.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
September, 2007. New Aeon Astrology. We're not new, but our web presence is! :D
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It was the obvious choice, and I was surprised and delighted to find the name available! We offer astrological services and info pertinent to the "New Aeon," the Aeon of Horus, so New Aeon Astrology was the perfect name.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
The style and voice, the fact that there aren't a zillion link-farm links or shared content on the site. It was a labor of love, and the voice you hear is mine. All the site's content is written by the site owner.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I want to build New Aeon Astrology into a successful astrological business. I am currently pursuing my degree in Psychology at San Diego State University, and plan to use astrological information, viewed through the filter of psychology, to assist others with their personal growth and freedom.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
We are new, so our success thus far has been sporadic. :D That said, our feedback has been excellent, and the site is growing exponentially!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes. We have friendly relationships with other Western (and Vedic) astrologers, who would be willing to take up some of the slack. If a situation arises where delays are anticipated, we contact the client *immediately* with the anticipated wait time, and offer them the opportunity to have another astrologer complete the chart, cancel the order, or agree to wait the anticipated time. It's all up to the client.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been overcoming the urge to be lazy: to present identical information the same way every other astrological site on the net does. We pride ourselves on having all astrological interpretations done by a real, live, human astrologer, rather than using software to spit out pre-programmed (and often contradictory) information.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Simply having a good website, submitting to the search engines, and gathering links from other *quality* astrological and related websites.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
New Aeon Astrology is new on the web, having been "born" 10/07. I plan to continue maintaining the site indefinitely, as it contains a wealth of free information regarding astrology, which will assist those with sufficient interest in learning and constructing their own astrological charts. New Aeon Astrology is more than a money making idea, we believe very much in our expressed ideals, and believe we (along with you!) *are* the ushers of the New Aeon. We have a responsibility, and we rejoice in meeting it.
What does your own astrological natal chart look like?
Virgo Sun, Taurus Moon, Mercury in Libra. Scorpio Ascendant, Mars in Scorp (ruh-roh!), conjoining natal Jupiter. Venus in Virgo, Neptune in Scorpio, Ouranos in Sag, Pluto in Libra.
